Commencement 2017 was a memorable one. Rainy weather forced us inside for only the second time in two decades. For the first time since being renamed, the Keiper Recreation Center served as the venue for the ceremony. Preserving a long-standing tradition, several trustees and I led the class through the Metzler Gate despite the inclement weather.

It has been three months since I moved to Berlin. Life was not so easy at first, but I have now gotten used to it. The city is certainly much different from Williamsport, the home of Lycoming College. There have been so far some aspects which I like and also those that I do not enjoy as much, but I would like to talk about all of them either way, because –who knows –maybe one day you will also decide to study abroad in Germany.

Fourteen Weeks

The college academic year is divided into two semesters. Two fourteen week periods where students schedule their classes and choose which classes they actually attend or not. It’s a lot different from high school, which, for the most part, keep students in mostly the same classes throughout the year, save for a few interchangeable electives. I think the division of the year into semesters is one of the key things that differentiate high school and college. A semester can really fly by - after all, it is only 14 weeks.
