The Lyco Lowdown: An Insider's View of Life at Lycoming

Greater Gratitude...

The generosity and philanthropic spirit of all those who care deeply about Lycoming College was on full display this past fiscal year. Lycoming closed out the year (July 1, 2016 – June 30, 2017) receiving new gifts, pledges and commitments of over $11 million in support of the Campaign for a Greater Lycoming reaching a total of $51,290,000 toward our $65 million goal. As part of the above totals, $6,139,000 in outright gifts were received, including $1,488,000 to the Lycoming Fund, both representing all-time highs. These are gifts that are making an immediate impact on new programs, capital projects and the endowment.

While many of us give back to Lycoming because of what we have received, we also give so others may benefit from the same, and even greater, educational opportunities. This week, I had the chance to visit with Michael Cavanaugh, Rebecca Forbes, Sergei Cole and Alex Newbold, four rising juniors who participated in this summer’s Williamsport Internship Summer Experience (WISE) program. In each of them, I encountered people of character and intelligence with promising aspirations whose knowledge, professional experiences and career preparedness have been greatly enhanced through their participation in WISE — a new enhanced academic experience that exists because of the generosity of many who have invested in the Campaign for a Greater Lycoming.

We invest in Lycoming College so that lives beyond our own, will be made profoundly better. Your generosity is not fully reflected in the 6,000+ alumni who have supported this campaign; it is not simply captured in the $11 million in gifts and commitments received this fiscal year; it is not even appropriately measured in an institutional endowment that now exceeds $200 million. Instead, your generosity is reflected in each of the lives your gifts impact. People like Michael, Rebecca, Sergei and Alex.

Gratitude abounds at Lycoming College. Gratitude for your generosity. Gratitude for the impact your investments make on this community. And gratitude for how this campaign will influence the lives of generations of students educated at Lycoming College.

We have just under two years remaining (June 30, 2019) in the Campaign for a Greater Lycoming. We have much to celebrate and much work to do. This is the time to not simply make Lycoming a greater institution, but instead to enable greater opportunities for each and every student. We thank you for your gifts and commitments to Lycoming College; you allow this community to not only dare to dream about what is possible, but to actually do it.

With gratitude,
