The Lyco Lowdown: An Insider's View of Life at Lycoming

Stephanie Osczepinski

I'm Steph and I am currently a senior psychology student at Lycoming College! Currently, I am involved in several activities at Lycoming College, including being a member of the Creative Arts Society, Lycoming College Band, and a board member of EACH Affinity Housing. I work as a TA for Dr. Darby Lewes, an English professor, and at the circulation desk at Snowden Library. I am a big theatre nerd, and I try to attend at least one performance of each theatre production here at Lycoming. I reside on the EACH floor on the third floor of Wesley, and I have a Emotional Support Pet living with me; she is a guinea pig named Nessa who helps keep me calm during anxiety attacks and provides comfort when I need it. As a book nerd, I have a variety of books in my dorm that I have picked up during the semester, and I'll eventually read them all in time. I also love to write, crochet, watch funny videos of cats, and binge-watch Netflix TV shows. Life as a senior isn't easy, but I try to make the best of it. Follow me on social media! Psychology Student 101

Posted by Stephanie Osczepinski on Feb 7, 2017 10:00:00 AM

Although I didn’t apply to Lycoming College for psychology (I was originally a biology major), I have found that being a psychology major was the right fit for me! Psychology is one of the most common majors in the United States , and there is a good reason! Having a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology grants more job opportunities because it is a flexible major. People assume psychology is all about experiments in super secret labs, but in reality, psychology is used in every-day life. Having experience with studying about mental disorders and how the mind works allows students to get jobs in counseling, social work, business, education, and childcare.

Major Changes (Literally)

Posted by Stephanie Osczepinski on Dec 9, 2016 1:04:00 PM

In 2013, I walked into my first college class at 7:45AM (I’m an early bird) and thought that I was going to be a biology major. I love animals, and I thought that biology was the best fit for me. However, in the middle of the spring semester, while taking BIO 111, I came to realize that I was not destined to become a biology major. I went through the rest of the spring semester unsure of myself, because I have so many interests. I love books, and I thought maybe a library career would be for me. I also love to write, and I almost became a creative writing major.

Confessions of a Bibliophile

Posted by Stephanie Osczepinski on Nov 30, 2016 10:00:00 AM

I’ll admit that I have a problem; I love books too much. I currently have about 20 unread books in my dorm room, and they take up my entire desk shelf. As a bibliophile, I tend to spend too much time engulfed in a book.

Animals are Therapeutic

Posted by Stephanie Osczepinski on Nov 15, 2016 1:33:15 PM

Ever since I was a little girl, I get excited to be around animals, especially the furry kind. I never had a cat or a dog as a pet (my mother is allergic), but I have had a few fish and guinea pigs. I am fortunate enough to have an aunt and uncle nearby who have several dogs, including a corgi named Keishka. I spent a lot of time at their house when I was young because they live nearby, so I grew up with a few of their puppies.

The CAS Halloween at Lycoming College

Posted by Stephanie Osczepinski on Nov 7, 2016 11:17:53 AM

Every year, Lycoming College has great Halloween activities that are "so spoopy". Between the Haunted Rec, the Halloween dance, and the Creative Arts Society's Haunted House, the weekend before Halloween is a fun experience! Although I have never personally been to the Haunted Rec (I am a total scaredy-cat), I have heard great things about the hauntings that lurk in the Recreation Center.

Senior Year Beginnings: A Reflection

Posted by Stephanie Osczepinski on Oct 21, 2016 3:15:00 PM

As of October 21, 2016, there are only 203 days until the Lycoming College’s Class of 2017 walks through the exclusive gates that are only opened once a year on graduation. When people say that college happens in a blink of an eye, it really might be true. It feels like just yesterday I was sitting in my dorm in Asbury Hall, playing Harry Potter Uno with my floor-mates, back in 2013. And yet, here I am today, sitting in my single in Wesley Hall as one of the oldest members of the EACH Affinity Housing floor.
